Week 9  Day 1

The Levites (family of Levi)
      were very distinct
      unique
They were set apart for the work of the Lord

The Levites were constantly surrounded by the holy
Their tasks pertained to worship
      and to the tabernacle
They slept encamped around the tabernacle.

The Blessing:
May God's face shine on you
      be gracious to you
      and give you peace

God's face and not his back
is what we want to know
      and experience

I wonder if the shine of God's face
is something like the morning sun
      coming in my window
      on a cold winter day
yet more to be desired than earthly sunshine
is God's face shining upon us.

                                     THE WORK OF LEVITES
Care for tabernacle, atone for sins, bless the people.

Numbers 1, 3, 6 & 8

50"You shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle, over
its furnishings, and over all things that belong to it; they shall
carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they shall attend
to it and camp around the tabernacle.  51When the tabernacle
is to go forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the
tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up.  The
outsider who comes near shall be put to death.  52The children
of Israel shall pitch their tents, everyone by his own camp and
by his own standard; 53but the Levites shall camp around
the tabernacle of the Testimony."
5The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:  6"Bring the tribe of
Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they
may serve him.  7They shall attend to his needs and the needs
of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of meeting.
9You shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are
given entirely to him from among the children of Israel."
11Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 12"Behold, I have
taken the Levites from among the Israelites instead of every
firstborn from among their children.  Therefore the Levites
shall be Mine, because all the firstborn are Mine.
11"Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses,
by their families; you shall number every male from a month
old and above."  39All who were numbered of the Levites
were twenty-two thousand.
22The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:  23"Speak to Aaron
and his sons, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of
Israel. Say:  24"The Lord bless you and keep you; 25The Lord
make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; 26The
Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace."'
27So they shall put My name on Israel, and I will bless them."
    21The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes;
then Aaron presented them like a wave offering before the
Lord, and made atonement for them to cleanse them.  22After
that the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle.
24"From twenty-five years old and above one may enter
to perform service in the tabernacle; 25at the age of fifty
years they must cease performing this work, and shall work
no more.  26They may minister with their brethren in the
tabernacle, to attend to needs, but they shall do no work.
Thus you shall do to the Levites regarding their duties."
