Week 11  Day 3

The covenant is not with the dead
        but with the living

If you will--
        keep my commandments
        never forget me
teach my ways to the children
seek me and walk in righteousness
        love, reverence and serve me
        show compassion toward the poor
        grant justice to all people
remember me in rituals and holy days

Then I will--
        give you the promised land
go before you and fight for you
        see that you lack nothing
enable you, honor you, redeem you
make things go well for you
        give you long life
be your dwelling place, your home.
        show you loving-kindness forever.

                                            MOSES' DEATH
His final words, "Choose what makes for life."
                                  Deuteronomy 30 & 34

11"This commandment is not too mysterious for you,
nor is it far off.  12It is not in heaven, that you should say,
'Who will ascend and bring it to us, that we may hear it
and
do it?'  13Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say,
'Who
will go over the sea and bring it to us, that we may
hear it
and do it?'  14But the word is very near you, in
your mouth
and in your heart, that you may do it.
15"I have set before you today life and good, death and
evil, 16in that I command you today to love the Lord your
God, to walk in His ways and keep His commandments,
statutes, and judgments, that you may live.  17But if your
heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn
away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18then you
shall surely perish and not prolong your days in the land
which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess.
19"I call heaven and earth as witnesses, that I have set
before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore
choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
20that you may love the Lord your God, obey His voice,
and
cling to Him for He is your life and the length of your
days;
and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord
swore to
your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to
give them."

1Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount
Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho.
The Lord showed him all the land of Gilead and all the
land
of Judah as far as the Western Sea, 3the South, and
the plain
of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees,
as far as Zoar.
4The Lord said to him, "This is the land
I swore to give to
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, 'I will
give it to your
descendants.'  I have caused you to see it
with your eyes,
but you shall not cross over there."
5Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land
of
Moab, according to the word of the Lord.  7Moses was
one
hundred and twenty years old when he died.  His eyes
were
not dim nor his natural vigor diminished.  8The
children of
Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab
thirty days.
So the days of weeping and mourning for
Moses ended.

10There has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses,
whom the Lord knew face to face, 11in all the signs and
wonders which the Lord sent him to do.
