Week 29   Day 6

I belong to God

Even when I sin

            God declares his love and faithfulness

God longs

            to be gracious

                        full of mercy

            to hear my prayers

                        forgive

                        renew and

                        deliver me from suffering.

When God called Abraham

            God was calling a remnant

            of the earth's population

            to be his people

Now Isaiah uses the word remnant

            in reference to God

            again calling out from the rest

            a small remnant

who would voluntarily

            and intentionally

            be God's people

from Isaiah we hear that the remnant

            will include non-Jews

in fact all people

            who choose God

            may come.

Much of Isaiah sounds like

            it's about judgment

What is "the day of the Lord"?

                  good

                  or frightening

            an awful day of destruction

            or the day when the blind will see

                                and the deaf will hear

It all depends on the choices we make.

                                 REBELS AGAINST GOD
     The clay pot said to the potter, "You didn't make me."

                                         Isaiah 29 & 30

     13"These people draw near with their mouths
And honor Me w
ith their lips,

But have removed their hearts far from Me.

Their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men.

14Behold, I will again do a marvelous work among this people;

For the wisdom of their wise shall perish,

And the understanding of their prudent shall be hidden."

     15Woe to those who seek to hide their counsel from the Lord,

They work in the dark and say, "Who sees us?"  "Who knows?"

16Surely you have things turned around!

Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; shall the thing made

Say of him who made it, "He did not make me"?

The form say of him who formed it, "He has no understanding"?

     8Now go, write it before them on a tablet, on a scroll,

That it may be for time to come, forever and ever:

9That this is a rebellious people, lying children,

Children who will not hear the law of the Lord.

10Who say to the seers, "Do not see,"

And to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things.

Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.

11Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

     12Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

"Because you despise this word,

And rely on oppression and perversity,

13Therefore this iniquity shall be to you

Like a breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high wall,

Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.

14And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter's vessel,

Which is broken in pieces; He shall not spare.

So there shall not be found among its fragments

A shard to take fire from the hearth, or water from the cistern."

     15Thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:

"In returning and rest you shall be saved;

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength."

     16But you said, "No, we will flee on swift horses"--

Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!

     18The Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you;

He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.

For the Lord is a God of justice;

Blessed are all those who wait for him.
