Week 21   Day 1

The book of Chronicles was written

            for the exiled Israelites

            who had been overpowered

            and forced into captivity

to remind them

            who they are

            where they came from

that collectively they are God's people

Remembering their history is key

            to their survival as a people

Somewhere on the long list of names

            everyone

            every slave

could find their roots

            their genealogy

                        a name to connect to

                        and say "I belong to that family"

And all these great names

yes, they could remember hearing about them.

                                               NAMES
                             Each person's life, a story.
                                   I Chronicles 1, 2 & 3

     1Adam, Seth, Enosh, 2Cainan, Mahalalel, Jared, 3Enoch,

Methuselah, Lamech, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

     1These were the sons of Israel:

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,

2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

     3The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah.

These three were born to him by the daughter of Shua, the

4And Tamar, his daughter-in-law, bore him Perez and Zerah.

All the sons of Judah were five.

     1Now these were the sons of David who were

born to him in Hebron:

The firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;

the second, Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelitess;

2the third, Absalom the son of Maacah,

the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur;

the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith;

3the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital;

the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah.

     4These six were born to him in Hebron.

There he reigned seven years and six months,

and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.

5And these were born to him in Jerusalem:

Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon--

four by Bathsheba the daughter of Amiel.

6Also there were Ibahar, Elishama, Eliphelet,

7Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 8Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet--

nine in all.  These were all the sons of David, besides

the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.

     10Solomon's son was Rehoboam;

Abijah was his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,

11Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Amaziah his son,

Azariah his son, Jotham his son.  13Ahaz his son,

Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son, 14Amon his son

and Josiah his son.  15The sons of Josiah were

Johanan the firstborn, the second Jehoiakim,

the third Zedekiah, and the fourth Shallum.

16The sons of Jehoiakim were Jeconiah and Zedekiah.
