Week 9  Day 7

An important theme in the book of Numbers
      is to keep faith alive
            and trust God
            in trying times.

When fear and doubt dominate
      that is sin
      and we lose
      we miss out
            on the blessing
            the aid
            the strength
which God wants to provide for us.

The choice of Joshua as Moses' successor
is an indication of things to come
In addition to being a spiritual giant
      Joshua was a military man.

                                  THE SUCCESSOR
Looking into the future with a new generation.
                                   Numbers 27 & 33

12The Lord said to Moses: "Go up into Mount Abarim,
and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel.
13When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your
people, as Aaron your brother was.  14For in the Wilderness
of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled
against My command to hallow Me at the waters of Meribah
before their eyes."
15Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16"Let the Lord,
the God of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17who
may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead
them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord
may not be like sheep which have no shepherd."
18The Lord said to Moses:  "Take Joshua the son of Nun
with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your land on
him; 19set him before Eleazar the priest and go before all the
congregation and inaugurate him in their sight.  20You shall
give some of your authority to him that all the congregation of
the children of Israel may be obedient.  21He shall stand before
Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him by
the judgment of the Urim.  At his word they shall go out, and
at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel
with him.  22So Moses did as the Lord commanded him.
50Now the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by
the Jordan, across from Jericho, saying, 51"Speak to the children
of Israel, and say to them:  'When you have crossed the Jordan
into the land of Canaan, 52then you shall drive out all the
inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy their engraved
stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their
high places; 53you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land
and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess.
54"You shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among
your families; to the larger you shall give a larger inheritance,
and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance; there
everyone's inheritance shall be whatever falls to him by lot.
You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers.
55"But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land
from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let
remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your
sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell."
