Two things stand out as you begin this passage
      the utter depravity of humankind
      and the grief of God's heart
The extent of God's sorrow
      points to the magnitude
      of God's love
The decision, or the remedy, which God chose
      was to end all life
      and send the world back to a watery chaos 

Then in the midst of the darkness
      God saw one light
It was Noah
      God clutched that one hope
      and devised a plan

Noah, of course, had to cooperate
      and he did
The faith of Noah is awesome
      before there was even a drop of rain
      he started building and stocking that ark

Thus the flood became a means
      not only of destruction
      but of salvation as well.

                                      GOD'S GRIEF 
            God used the floodwater to cleanse, save, 
                              and redeem the world.
                                     Genesis 6 & 7

    5The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great,
and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only
evil continually.  6The Lord was sorry that He had made
man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  7So
the Lord said, "I will destroy man from the face of the
earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of
the air, for I am sorry that I have made them."
    8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.  9This is
the genealogy of Noah.  Noah was a just man, perfect in his
generations.  Noah walked with God.  10Noah begot three
sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
      11The earth was corrupt before God, and 13God said
to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the
earth is filled with violence; behold, I will destroy them with
the earth. 
    14"Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in
the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.  15This is
how you shall make it:  The length of the ark shall be three
hundred cubits [450 feet], its width fifty cubits [75 feet], and
its height thirty cubits [45 feet].  16Make a window for the
ark, and finish it to a cubit [18 inches] from above; and set
the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower,
second, and third decks.
    17"I am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy all
flesh; everything that is on the earth shall die.  18But I will
establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark--
you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.  
19Of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of
every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they
shall be male and female.  20Of the birds and animals after
their kind, and of every creeping thing after its kind, two of
every kind will come to you to keep them alive.  21You shall
take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and gather it and
it shall be food for you and for them."  22Thus Noah did;
according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
    17The flood was on the earth forty days.  The waters
increased and lifted the ark high above the earth.  18The
waters prevailed and greatly increased on the earth and
the ark moved about on the surface of the waters.
